Banded Belt

The variety regarded as the best, certainly for residential applications, is the belt driven operator. This type uses a rubber belt, which runs the garage door on its track virtually silently. This type is the most expensive of the three varieties but is the best for homes that have adjacent bedrooms or living areas that would be impacted by the noise of other varieties. Additionally this is the best choice for areas with large shifts in temperature most importantly cold areas. The reliability of the rubber belt in even below freezing temperatures is a major selling point.
Similar in operation to the v belt drive but significantly more cost effective is the chain driven motor. This type runs a long chain that raises and lowers the door in its track but it is by far the loudest type of opener on this list. It is applicable for detached buildings or perhaps one far from the living area of the house. This type of device is best in areas that have more mild winters due to its metal parts.
